I’m sure you’ve heard about this beautiful treat. The first known recipe for Nanaimo Bars appeared in the 1950s in a local Nanaimo, BC cookbook. It was initially called "Chocolate Square" but later adopted the city's name.
This iconic Canadian dessert, a no-bake treat with a layered structure of chocolate, custard and a graham cracker base originates from Nanaimo and is a point of local pride. While rooted in Canadian culture, the Nanaimo Bar has gained popularity worldwide and is often included in discussions of iconic North American desserts.
